Investigation of Geometrical extent of geologic formation in the Southwestern Sokoto Basin Nigeria: Airborne and Landsat 8 Classification

Se utilizaron conjuntos de datos de geofísica aérea de alta resolución de una parte de la cuenca suroeste de Sokoto, en el noroeste de Nigeria, para caracterizar las unidades litológicas y mapear su extensión geométrica. Las principales características litológicas interpretadas a partir de las imágenes del Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) y de los datos de la intensidad magnética total, facilitaron la identificación de las variaciones en las unidades minerales y litológicas, tales como el cuarzo, gneis de biotita, granito de biotita, arenisca feldespática, arenisca, hierro, gneis granítico y migmatita. El mapa ternario radiométrico mostró características geológicas bastante similares a las del Landsat 8, el mapa magnético y el mapa geológico del área de estudio. La deconvolución de Euler en 3D corroboró la imagen de parámetros de fuente (SPI) para la profundidad estimada de las fuentes magnéticas ocultas, que oscila en ≤ 200 m, de 317,7 m a 500 m y por encima de 780 m, para profundidades superficiales, intermedias y profundas, respectivamente. La solución de Euler con índices estructurales SI de 0 y 1 reveló un agrupamiento perfecto a lo largo de notables características geológicas tales como: fallas, zonas de cizalla y límites litológicos mapeadas con la banda multiespectral OLI, límites litológicos laterales y la geometría vertical de la formación geológica dentro de la parte suroeste de la cuenca de Sokoto. La investigación destacó las ventajas de utilizar datos de geofísica aérea y multiespectrales para lograr una caracterización más completa de las unidades litológicas expuestas en la superficie.”
