Abstract

Isotopic determinations of δ13CCH4­, δDCH4 and δ13CCO2 and δ18O and δD in fluids from wells in the Los Humeros geothermal field and natural springs are presented. There is no migrated steam (excess steam) in the feeding zone of the productive wells; rather, there is some steam deficit. The isotopic data (δD y δ18O) suggest a regional replenishment by rainfall. The behavior of δDH2O, δ18OH20, δ13CCH4 and δ13CCO2 in terms of elevation suggest mixing of at least two different reservoir fluids. A discussion of possible CO2 and CH4 origins based on isotopic data is presented.
