Abstract

The first-order spring of Las Estacas has a constant discharge with a variation index of 1.52. The spring emerges in the valley of the Yautepec River along 600 m of Cretaceous limestone in a descending manner. However, the principal discharge is of an ascending type from a karstic cave. On the basis the geological and hydrogeological conditions of the zone and some physicochemical properties of the water, it is presumed that the spring is a drainage of aquifers of the Cuautla River sub-basin by way of a subterranean karstic conduit or a system of such conduits of about 13 kms in length which makes use of the ground water flow across two hydrographic watersheds.
