Este número de Geofísica Internacional incluye la segunda parte de un volumen especial que se publica como parte de las actividades del Comité Nacional para el Programa Internacional de Litósfera (ILP). El ILP fue establecido en septiembre de 1980 por el Consejo Internacional de Uniones Científicas (ICSU), con el objetivo de constituir el principal programa internacional de investigación interdisciplinaria para la década 1980-1989.
