Discusión al balance de aguas subterráneas en cuencas volcánicas terciarias de México

Abstract

A revision of the groundwater balance equation as applied to Tertiary volcanic basins, especially its meaning as a synonym of the volume of water available in a basin is required. In this paper, the parameters in the equation are questioned. A final conclusion suggests that the upward movement of thermal groundwater plays an essential role and that the storage coefficient should be considered for a particular time and place. An analysis of the groundwater balance equation in two different volcanic basins, in Baja California Sur (San Juan B. Londó) and in San Luis Potosi state (San Luis Potosi valley), shows that the concepts included in the traditional scheme must be revised taking into account groundwater flow beyond the surface catchment within the geological setting.
