Abstract

The natural hydraulic boundary conditions and the initial conditions of groundwater tlow in the Valley of Mexico are presented. Natural evidence of groundwater tlow and a two-dimensional, steady-statc finite element model in cross-section were used for this analysis. From the modeling results, the location of the divides in the mountains is displaced to the valley of highest elcvation, which is important in the groundwater budget of the system. The location of the groundwatcr divides causes groundwater discharge to the Valley of Mexico as following: 40% in Sierra Chichinautzin, 70% in Sierra Las Cruces and 50% in Sierra Nevada.
