Abstract

In the present work, gravity measurements along NS and EW sections through the basin of San Jorge Gulf are analyzed. Towards the center of the Gulf, a gravimetric maximum on a thick sedimentary cover is found. The value of which is considerably increased when the effect of the basin is taken into account. The characteristic of such gravity anomaly suggests an excess of mass sitting in the upper crust, perhaps connected to the initial subsidence. The thick sedimentary cover developed at later times may have induced isostatic reactions.
