Abstract

Significant disagreement exists between the solubility models for the H20-C02 system and results published in the literature. We analyze the reasons underlying this disagreement. A thermodynamically correct and numerically accurate model for the solubility of carbon dioxide in water is proposed. Its validity extends up to 3500C and 500 bar. A equation of state for the gas phase is proposed, that reallistically accounts for the non-ideal behavior of both components within the P-T range considered. The effects of temperature 'and pressure on the solubility of carbon dioxide in the liquid phase are included. The model fits the available phase equilibrium data for the H20-C02 system, It does not present the severe conflict between the linearity of the model and the lack of linearity of the data evident in earlier models.
