Abstract

Los Tuxtlas Volcanic Field (L TVF) is located on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, east of the Mexican Volcanic Belt. This field contains over 276 volcanic structures within a diameter of -50 km. Rock types vary from tephritic basanite to basalt and occasionally basaltic andesite. The major element data and the corresponding ClPW norm show that the magmas are little differentiated, with high Mg-Values ( -70). As compared to the eastern and north-western parts ofthe Mexican Volcanic Belt, the magmas of Los Tuxtlas are in general more primitive.
