Abstract

Locations of 22 microearthquakes (-0.09≥l.l) in the arca of Canatlán, Durango (Mexico) are reported. The events are located between Santiaguino lake and the eastern margin of the Sierra Madre Occidental, at a depth of 1.0 to 5.5 km. Spatial distribution suggests two linear trends at N21 °W and N71 °E corresponding to conjugate faults related to normal range faulting. The major axis of the activity is 7.2 km. The main events of the sequence occurred on 18 March 1972 and no records are available, but magnitude of mb=3.l is estimated from felt reports.
