Abstract

A methodology for the computation of heat liberated by fractional crystallization in a magma chamber is presented, with application to Los Azufres (Mich.) and Los Humeros (Pue.) geothermal fields. The heat from fractional crystallization increases the temperature of the magma chambers in Los Azufres and Los Humeros in -411 oc and -472°C respectively These new estimates are higher than previously reported estimates from "one-step cooling" of the entire magma chamber ( -300°C).
