Gradientes de velocidad en la Corteza y Manto Superior de las islas Baleares (Mar Mediterráneo)

Abstract

Amplitude data obtained from seismic refraction profiles in the Balearic Islands (Spain) have been analyzed. A description of the technique used is given. The velocity gradient in the crystalline basement has been determined between 0.0 and 10^-2 s^-1. ln the upper mantle, the gradient is between 0.0 and 50x10^-4 s^-1 which is one order of magnitude lower than the gradient in the Western Mediterranean basin. This is explained in terms of the continental character of the Balearic Islands.
