Climate variability and climate change in Mexico: A review

Abstract

A review of research on climate variability, fluctuations and climate change in Mexico is presented. Earlier approaches include diferent time scales from paleoclimatic to historical and instrumental. The nature and causes of variability in Mexico have been attributed to large-scale southward/northward shifts of the mid-latitude major circulation and more recently to the ENSO cycle. Global greenhouse warming has become a major environmental issue and has spawned a large number of climate-change related impact studies.
