Abstract

This book on the Mesozoic and Cenozoic oceans is a report of Working Group (WG) 5 of the International Lithosphere Project (ILP) and was published as part of the Geodynamics Series of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the Geological Society of America (GSA). Lithosphere WG 5 (initially WG 7, from 1980 to 1985) works on Paleo-environmental Evolution of the Oceans and Atmosphere, under the coordination of Jorn Thiede (editor K. J. Hsü coordinated WG 7 from 1980 to 1985). The book contains 12 contributions (and a preface) that were presented at a symposium during the 1984 International Geological Congress and are grouped into two sections, of five and seven articles, respectively, all of them briefly commented by the editor in the preface.
