A survey of hurricane development.

Abstract

I think the most useful service I can perform this morning is to provide a background for the papers which are to follow, and to trace the evolution of some of the ideas about hurricane development that will be discussed today. The program this morning is devoted to theoretical studies on hurricane formation, and more specifically to certain numerical experiments on hurricane dynamics. This is a difficult subject. and in this introductory survey I will try to make it a little more comprehensible to those who, like me, are not specialists in theoretical meteorology.
