Geofísica Internacional (GI) is a renowned Mexican scientific journal that has been a cornerstone for publishing geophysical research in Latin America since its founding in 1961 and, more recently, in other regions of the world due to its growing influence.

This journal is published quarterly by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) through its Geophysical Institute. Over the past year, GI has undergone significant restructuring. Among the most notable changes, a new editorial organization has been established with publication of specific thematic Areas: Space and Planetary Studies; Geophysical Fluids; Solid Earth; and Geophysics, Geology and Shallow Geochemistry, each under the supervision of a small editorial board.

On this respect, mathematical and computational modeling, along with the development of data-driven models using artificial intelligence techniques, stand out as fundamental tools in contemporary geophysics. These methodologies not only enable the analysis, prediction, and simulation of complex natural phenomena but also facilitate the identification of patterns and the creation of predictive models from large datasets.

The Area of Mathematical and Computational Geophysics has been created to strengthen the journal's academic profile and respond to emerging demands in the region. This new editorial section will provide a robust platform for publishing innovative research and foster advancements in the application of computational tools and mathematical approaches to geophysics.

This is a call to submitting articles to this new Mathematical and Computational Geophysics thematic Area. Manuscripts submitted before September 30, 2025 will be considered for evaluation and, if accepted, will be included in the first section dedicated to this area in an upcoming issue of the journal.

Section call

Sincerely,

The Editorial Committee of the Mathematical and Computational Geophysics Area
