Abstract

A first order theory is developed to treat the scattering of elastic waves by small inhomogeneities. Attention is restricted to inhomogeneities for which the perturbation of the elastic properties is not small but the perturbed region is thin. Geological formations satisfying these conditions are dykes, lenses, etc. Using the integral representation theorems of elastodynamics the solutions are expressed as integral of known quantitie.
