Abstract

The characteristics of the vertical and radial circulations of a mature cyclone are investigated theoretically. Two models are considered, a filtered model and a primitive equation model; both of these are axially symmetric and time dependent. The evolution of the circulations from an assumed balanced initial condition is obtained by numerical integrations. The results for the two models are compared. The computed circulations resemble those observed in a mature tropical cyclone, especially near the central core.
