Michoacán Seismic and Tremor (MIST) Network: Perspectives, preliminary results and future directions to understand the role of the Cocos plate and the monogenetic volcanism

La Red Sísmica y de Tremores de Michoacán (MIST, por sus siglas en inglés) es un experimento que da continuidad a las redes sísmicas temporales MASE (Middle America Subduction Experiment) y VEOX (Veracruz-Oaxaca).
Estos dos experimentos consistieron en arreglos lineales de estaciones sísmicas de banda ancha perpendiculares a la trinchera con el fin de obtener extensos registros de formas de onda para caracterizar la subducción de la placa de Cocos. Mientras MASE se enfocó en el segmento plano de la zona de subducción en el estado de Guerrero, México, VEOX se enfocó en determinar la geometría de la placa inclinada en el Istmo de Tehuantepec. En este trabajo presentamos la red MIST que está siendo desplegada en el occidente de Michoacán, un área donde convergen procesos sísmicos y volcánicos. Estas tres redes tienen como objetivo conjunto caracterizar la geometría y reología de la placa 1 de subducción, así como analizar los enjambres sísmicos asociados a los procesos magmáticos que originan el campo volcánico monogenético Michoacán-Guanajuato. En este trabajo se muestran los resultados de aplicar la técnica del cociente espectral entre las componentes horizontales y la vertical (HVSR) y su comportamiento direccional en bajas frecuencias para determinar si es posible inferir rumbo y buzamiento de la placa, además de la detección y análisis de tremores a lo largo del transecto, con énfasis en su relación con procesos volcanotectónicos. Por último, se delinean las perspectivas de expansión de la red y los análisis futuros orientados a integrar la dinámica tectónica de la región.
