Abstract

An analysis of the relation Q = f (s) from pumping-test data for each of the 13 wells in the Santa Catarina-Mixquic branch line shows that the aquifer in this part of the valley of Chalco is generally unconfined. InitialIy, the aquifer was confined in a few places bccause of the variable thickness of the confining bed, but at present overexploitation has altered this normal situation. In the center of the valley the confining bcd is relatively thin but its thickness increases to nearly 40 meters to the north and to over 58 meters to the south of the branch lineo The aquifer has the following mean values: coefficient of pcrmeability 5.45 x 10-5 m s-l; transmissivity 1.08 x 10-2 m2 s-l; effective porosity 0.144, and specific yield 7.5 l s.
