Geophysical model of the hydrothermal system of the Amado Nervo Volcano (Nayarit, Mexico) and preliminary evaluation of its geothermal potential

Este estudio presenta un modelo conceptual del sistema hidrotermal asociado al Volcán Amado Nervo, en el occidente de México, mediante la integración de información geológica, gravimétrica, magnética y geotérmica. Los objetivos fueron caracterizar la estructura subsuperficial del sistema volcánico, identificar firmas geofísicas potencialmente asociadas a la alteración hidrotermal y proporcionar una estimación preliminar del potencial geotérmico explotable de la región. Los datos aeromagnéticos fueron procesados mediante técnicas de reducción al polo, señal analítica, continuación ascendente y análisis espectral, mientras que los datos gravimétricos se derivaron del Modelo Gravimétrico Global (GGM+) y se transformaron en anomalías de Bouguer simple y residual. El método del espectro de potencia promediado radialmente se aplicó para estimar la profundidad de las fuentes magnéticas, la profundidad del punto de Curie, el gradiente geotérmico y el flujo de calor conductivo. Los resultados geofísicos revelan una asociación entre zonas de atenuación magnética, mínimos de señal analítica y anomalías gravimétricas negativas, delimitando dominios estructuralmente complejos caracterizados por una reducción de la densidad y la magnetización.
El análisis espectral permitió estimar una profundidad del punto de Curie de aproximadamente 7.5 km, a partir de la cual se calcularon un gradiente geotérmico de 70.8 °C/km y un flujo de calor conductivo de 176 mW-m2. Estos valores son consistentes con los reportados para regiones geotérmicas del Cinturón Volcánico Transmexicano. La integración de la información geofísica y geológica permitió desarrollar un modelo conceptual hidrotermal correspondiente a un sistema volcánico-hidrotermal estructuralmente controlado y potencialmente sustentado por una fuente de calor intrusiva residual. La evaluación preliminar del recurso geotérmico se realizó mediante el método volumétrico Heat in Place acoplado con 9,999 simulaciones de Monte Carlo.
Los resultados arrojaron un potencial geotérmico promedio de 19.75 MW, con valores simulados que oscilan entre 5 y 34 MW.
Aunque esta estimación está sujeta a incertidumbres relacionadas con la geometría del reservorio y los parámetros termofísicos empleados, el recurso estimado sitúa al sistema volcánico Amado Nervo dentro del rango de prospectos geotérmicos de escala media en México. La arquitectura hidrotermal propuesta presenta similitudes con la del campo geotérmico cercano de Domos de San Pedro y respalda la continuidad de las actividades de exploración mediante investigaciones geofísicas, geoquímicas y de perforación más detalladas. En conjunto, este estudio demuestra el valor de integrar métodos geofísicos indirectos para la evaluación geotérmica en etapas tempranas dentro de regiones volcánicas del Cinturón Volcánico Transmexicano.
