Estudio gravimétrico en la zona geotérmica de La Presita, Culiacán, México

Resumen

En 1981 se llevó a cabo un levantamiento gravimétrico en la zona geotérmica de La Presita, cerca de la ciudad de Culiacán, Sinaloa, México. Se estableció un total de 306 puntos de medición en una área aproximada de 290 km2 . Los datos fueron reducidos y procesados mediante una serie de algoritmos computacionales que se describen con detalle en este trabajo. La interpretación se llevó a cabo utilizando una técnica de inversión bidimensional. Inferimos de ella la presencia de un pilar de rumbo N-NO, que domina estructuralmente a la zona. Hacia el oeste de la zona, el relieve de la estructura del basamento sugiere la presencia de una falla normal que no tiene evidencia superficial, pero concuerda con los sistemas de fallas y fracturas que se observan regionalmente. Hacia el E, el pilar se encuentra limitado por la cuenca (Fosa) del río Humaya, donde se estima un grosor de sedimentos de hasta 1 km. Tenemos poca evidencia, pero estimamos que esta estructura se continúa hacia el sur de la zona. La zona geotérmica de La Presita está caracterizada por un sistema de fallas normales que sirven de conducto, a la superficie, a las aguas termales. Sin embargo, no tenemos suficiente evidencia geofísica para poder inferir la presencia de un cuerpo anómalo a profundidad.
